Language and Communication in our Vision Statement
Our vision statement is full of goals that are all about language and communication.
In our fully inclusive school, we want a flexible curriculum for all of our children to support them in becoming independent learners with a real love for the enjoyment of learning.
We want them to be creative and innovative with good communication skills – to be great listeners and confident speakers who can draw on a widening vocabulary as they move through our school.
We want our children to have lots of opportunities to build friendships throughout and to learn to work well in different groups – pairs, threes, teams etc – by the time they reach the end of KS1.
We want our children to be free thinkers and questioners, ready to evaluate and develop new ideas for themselves – all of this will help our children to be ‘future proof’ as they move on to new settings and opportunities.
From their first days in our school, we want to give the children the opportunity to learn about taking risks in their learning adventures and to do this through outdoor learning whenever they can. We want them to understand that it’s ok to make mistakes, as these help us all to learn even more.
To support all of this, we want the KRIII curriculum to draw on a wider range of topics that include lots of life experiences, trips and ‘wow events’, linking closely to the rich and vibrant community that surrounds our school.
As a Leicester City school, we've taken part in Voice 21 training about Oracy (Speaking and Listening) across the curriculum.
Language and Communication, 'Oracy' and Voice 21 approaches are at the heart of everything we do.
