PE at King Richard III
At King Richard III, we believe all children should enjoy being active and healthy. Our PE lessons are fun, inclusive, and help children build confidence in physical activity and sport.
In Nursery and Reception (EYFS)
Children begin to explore how their bodies move. They learn how to run, jump, climb, throw, and catch through fun and active play.
We help children develop important movement skills like balance, coordination, and strength. These are called fundamental movement skills and are the building blocks for all physical activities.
Children enjoy playing games where they learn to take turns, listen to instructions, and move safely. They practise using their bodies in different ways—indoors and outdoors—through activities like dancing, obstacle courses, and using balls and other equipment.
PE in the Early Years helps children feel confident, work with others, and enjoy being active.
In Years 1 and 2 (KS1)
Children continue to develop and improve their physical skills. They practise running, jumping, throwing, and moving their bodies with greater control. Through fun games and activities, we help them build strength, balance, and coordination.
Children begin to play team games where they learn to take turns, follow rules, and stay safe. These games also help them practise sharing, talking with others, and working together. They start to understand simple tactics, such as how to attack and defend, and how to support their teammates.
We want all children to enjoy being active and to learn how to stay healthy. The skills they learned in Nursery and Reception are built upon in KS1, with activities becoming more challenging to help them continue learning and growing.
