We see all of our children as scientists who can tap into their natural curiosity about the world around them. As a school, we also value science capital and recognise the need to prepare our children for future successes, helping to fill the worldwide skills gap at the same time.
We believe in inclusive learning for children of all abilities and needs, and ensure that every child has opportunities to experience exciting Science lessons, in mainstream sessions and in the environment of the DSP. We utilise the school grounds and the outdoors, to ensure that the children have access to hands on experiences wherever possible.
Teachers use enthusiasm, encouragement and guidance to develop children's independence and to help them to experience success in using their skills in questioning, observing, noticing, exploring, investigating and discovering. All of these spark the children's continuing interest in Science.
Our children are confident, ambitious learners who have high expectations for their learning. They understand the idea of 'scientific method' and are able to use it to conduct investigations. They can predict, record and conclude from their results. We encourage them to use correct terminology and vocabulary whenever they can.
'Awe and wonder' moments are the key to successful learning throughout our school, and we try to place them at the heart of every Science lesson.
