At our school, we believe that every child is a scientist. Children are naturally curious about the world, and we want to help them explore and learn more through exciting Science lessons. We also want to prepare them for the future by helping them build important science skills that are needed around the world.
We make sure that all children, no matter their ability or needs, can enjoy and take part in Science. This includes children in our mainstream classes and those in our Designated Specialist Provision (DSP). We use our school grounds and outdoor spaces as much as possible so children can learn through real, hands-on experiences.
Our teachers use energy, encouragement, and support to help children become more independent in their learning. We teach them how to ask questions, observe carefully, notice changes, explore new ideas, investigate problems, and make discoveries. These skills help children stay interested and excited about Science.
Children at our school are confident and eager to learn. They have high expectations for themselves and understand how to use the “scientific method” to carry out investigations. They learn how to make predictions, record their results, and explain what they found out. We also encourage them to use the correct scientific words whenever they can.
We believe that the best learning happens when children feel amazed and excited. That’s why we try to include moments of “awe and wonder” in every Science lesson.
